Islington Square - London

For many years Islington has been a vibrant centre of commercial and artistic endeavour. This is no more clearly defined than in the grand architectural eloquence of the Postal Sorting Office on Upper Street. In recent years, the Sorting Office and surrounding properties have been extensively redeveloped to provide 170,000 sq. ft. of retail and leisure destinations, 263 new homes and 108 serviced apartments. Pre C19 an annual footfall of 5 million was envisaged.

At the start of 2020 Tenon fm were selected to provide the ‘soft’ fm services to the common parts of the Sorting Office development containing the retail and leisure areas. Over the past year we have grown our team in line with the rising occupancy rate to the point where we now have 13 people, led by an on-site manager, servicing the Square from 06:00 to 22:00, 364 days of the year. Our tasks include: the cleaning of common parts, rest room facilities, waste management, window cleaning, litter picking, stone cleaning, etc.

In this period of growing occupancy we have demonstrated a high level of flexibility in working out the servicing processes so as to continually reflect our ethos of delivering a quality service at a value for money outcome.

To maintain our standards, whilst reducing the C19 risk, we changed the roster process in order not to have as many operatives in the same area at any one time so as to reduce interface with the public. We introduced weekly C19 testing for the whole team and provided significantly enhanced PPE sets to all. To further augment the safety process and update the team on HMG guidelines we increased the frequency of tool box talks.
